Compressor Limiters
Studio's, broadcasters and live engineers use compressors to keep an audio signal within a dynamic range. Basically, compression units keep the volume of the source relatively even. This is a great tool and often used heavily on vocals.
Compressors and limiters often go hand in hand as they are not different in process but rather in the degree off the effect. A limiter basically never lets a an audio signal past its threshold position and they are often used as a safety device.-

Audio Compressors and Limiters Cont . . .
Keep your recording within a certian dynamic range or add a safety net to your live sound system with a compressor or limiter unit. Audio compression units are often the forgotten hero of many a PA system or studio setup. In many Digital mixers you will find compressors, gates and limiters built-in however, for those using a standard analogue desk, using a seperate compressor unit will serve you well and keep your signals under control.
