Kemble wins Bosendorfer distribution
Bosendorfer pianos, bought by Yamaha at the end of last year, has appointed Kemble & Co as its exclusive distributor for the UK and Ireland. The brand is being handled as a separate division within Yamaha and will therefore not be handled by Yamaha Music UK.
According to a statement from the company, "Bosendorfer and YMUK management both agreed that as Yamaha Music UK Ltd is so focused on selling Yamaha brand pianos and, in particular, on growing sales of Yamaha handcrafted pianos, it would make little sense for YMUK to handle Bosendorfer pianos.
"In contrast we felt it would work better with Kemble & Co representing us as, apart from their 5ft 8in KC173 grand piano, they have no other grand piano in their line up, so the two brands complement each other very well." Noting that the brand has recently been under-represented in the British Isles, Brian Kemble, joint MD of Kemble & Co, commented, "We aim to rectify that quickly. Indeed, Harrods, seen by many as a showcase to the world, will be stocking Bosendorfer again from June."
UK sales will fall under the remit of David Halford, who has previous experience working for Steinway and will take responsibility for Bosendorfer across the UK and Ireland in addition to his role as part of the Kemble sales team. As well as Harrods, which has already placed an order for four pianos, Kemble & Co has received expressions of interest from several other dealers, and expects to announce a second London dealership soon with a further four or five retail outlets across the territories to follow.
